Education Technology Philosophy Statement

When I think about how people learn and what makes me retain information I think of lots of different things. Every single person learns in a different way. As a teacher it is my job to reach every single student. This means coming up with lessons that incorporate activities, lectures and projects that will reach every type of learner. I believe that people learn best when they are exposed to lessons that reach them in many different ways.

There are many theories in regards to education and my main theory is that the more interactive a lesson is and in general education is the more students will learn and retain. The big question is how as a teacher, do I make every lesson I teach interactive and exciting. Even when lecture is fully and completely necessary I can make it interesting by incorporating question activities, interactive brief checking for understanding activities and rhetorical question students can think about.

All of the above three ways to help make lessons interactive can be done through using technology. I have always understood that technology was the future. Even when I was in elementary school I remember loving the interaction and stimulation that a computer gave me as a student. I hope to use technology in my classroom in many different ways. I fully believe that students today expect technology to be used in their educational process…and why shouldn’t they? Technology is everywhere a student looks so using technology to its best ability is important. Technology allows for students to be actively involved with all of things previously mentioned. Technology allows for education to be interactive, hands on with activities and provokes questions for students to think about.

For example, when say a student tends to be more of a visual learner. There are many different exciting ways that, that type of learner can learn best by using technology. A student could watch a video (or even create a video), create a visual PowerPoint presentation, or watch a step by step video of how to do something. I plan on using technology in my classroom so that every single student can learn to their fullest potential. I also plan on using technology so that I as a teacher can be creative, learn even more about technology and to communicate with other peers.
