Lesson Plan Title: Observing the Frog
Found at: http://www.lessonplanspage.com/ScienceObserveCharsFrogsSenses24.htm

The technologies used in this lesson are the World Wide Web, student response systems and a video camera.

Objectives of the technologies:
World Wide Web – The web will be used for students to search and locate information that contrast and compares frogs and toads. This will allow students to research effectively and also learn about the differences between the two animals.

Student Response Systems (“clickers”) – Students will use the “clickers” to come up with true/false questions they will ask the class about the differences between frogs and toads.

Video Camera – Even though the students will look at the real frogs in terms of the five senses, students may also create a little video filming the different parts of a frog that would represent their five senses.

Skills required:

The teacher will need to know how to navigate the web and also explain to the students what makes a website a credible website. The teacher will also need to know who to operate the basics of a video camera so they may teach their students how to use the cameras. The teacher will also need to understand how to set up the “clickers” so they can assist their students in setting up their true/false questions.

The students will need to be able to identify a credible website versus a non-credible website. They will also need to understand how to use a basic digital camera. They will need to be able to think of true/false questions and be able to input them into the student response system software.

Reflection of the technology:

All three of these types of technology most people can use. The video camera will allow the students to be the artists and really create something that represents their vision. Even though each group for students will be filming a frog and have the same goal objective each video will be vastly different the others because each frog will be slightly different and each group will shoot their video a different way. The World Wide Web is such a vastly used resources will so much information and can be an amazing tool. The key will be for students to understand that anyone can put research on the web and knowing how to detect real valid research versus made up research is important. The students response system clickers will allow the students to think of facts they think are important and also be able to learn how to use a technology to test their classmates.

Title: What is Community?
Found at: http://www.lessonplanspage.com/SSLAOMDCommunityUnit-WhatIsCommunityL36.htm

The technologies used in this lesson are a digital camera, PowerPoint and Kidspiration.

Objectives of the technology:

Digital camera: As a pre activity for this lesson students will take pictures of their community. They could do this individual, in pairs or in group depending on how many digital cameras the school has available.

PowerPoint: Student will use PowerPoint to create a presentation about their community.

Kidspiration: Students will use Kidspiration to create at least one graphic to include in their PowerPoint presentation about their community.

Skills required:

Teacher: The teacher must know how to run a basic digital camera so they may teach the students how to use it. The teacher must understand the basics of both PowerPoint and Kidspiration programs so they may give a basic tutorial to their students.

Students: Students will need to understand how to use a digital camera and also those digital cameras are not toys. They will also need to understand how to format PowerPoint presentations and create graphics in Kidspiration.

Reflection of Technology:

All three of the types of technology that could be used in this lesson are important. I think the digital camera will allow for the students to take pictures that show their perspectives much like a video camera would. I think the Kidspiraton software allows for students to create something that is easy for them to follow and that will also allow them to be creative. The PowerPoint program allow for many chances for creativity, is easy to navigate and will allow for students to be able to show the class about their community in a fun and interesting way. Also, PowerPoint will allow for the other technologies to fuse together. In the PowerPoint students can put their pictures they take with their digital camera and also their Kidspiration graphic that they create.
