While reading up on my blogs from my blogroll I came by a post by “The Innovative Educator” which discusses some cool pieces of technology that students “who are ELL, foreign language, and struggling learners (Innovative Educator)” can utilize. It’s nice to see new technology coming out that can help those who stuggle with the English language or in general struggle with reading. After reading the blog entry my favorite applicaton that is mentioned is the Google Translator. Often times I have a hard time trusting translation sites because I never really know if the translation is correct. This Google Translator seems has if it would be reliable. Pretty cool!

iTunes U!

I was looking at my hometowns web site (ljworld.com) and came upon this cool article about iTunes U. I use itunes all of the time, but have never used iTunes U. It sounds pretty cool! As mentioned in the article written by Lindsey Slater, this application would be great to use in a classroom setting!

Thanksgiving and Technology

I know Thanksgiving is over already, but I ran into this cool video about a fun Thanksgiving activity that could be done with students after a unit over the first Thanksgiving is complete! Sounds pretty cool! I think the students would really have fun with the project discussed!

It’s always nice to go to a website that discusses something you are interested in and then to find on that same site there are links to other good sites. The “Kids Know It Network” is a great place online for students of all ages to learn in many different ways. There are links so that kids can go to a section which explores whichever topic they are interested in practicing or learning about (ex: history, science, etc.). I happen to click on “Geography Games” and found myself playing the map matching game for awhile! This website would be great for students to be able to access. The site allows for students to pick and choose what they want to do. Options are always nice!

Who Wants to Write a Poem?

When I was in elementary school I loved writing poems. Now…today I love reading poetry, but I am terrible at writing it.

This is a cool website which has many fun options for students. Students can read different types of poems, create a poem, listen to a podcast about poems and much more.

Sciences Cases – Plants

I found cool a cool website were students can work on specific science cases online. The website has many different cases that students can work on to solve. In many ways the cases remind me of webquests. Each case tells the students what they need to find out as they explore their case. Many of the cases focus on different aspects of plants and I thought that the cases were interesting and fun to solve.

I opened my web browser just a second ago and saw the following headline on Yahoo!: “Study: Math Teachers a Chapter Ahead of Students”

This headline caught my attention right away. If you get a chance…read this article. The article discusses and points out the major need for more math teachers. The article also discusses the struggles that many schools, especially those located in urban areas have in finding a teacher licensed in math period.

Fun Brain

So…this website has it all! There are resources for teachers and fun activities for students. I found myself as a college student being a little addicted to this site. There are games for all discipline areas as well as many resouces for teachers and even parents to use. Many of the games are related to one or more discipline area and are very interactive. I think that the reading section is pretty cool because students can actually take a look at a couple of books. A couple of books that I know are popular with students are featured on the site!

I really enjoying learning about all of these interesting and creative ways that students are using technology. Many of the blogs I read have exciting activities for students and the students seem to do so well and respond so well to them. This activity is no different!

Movie Production in the Classroom

There are many ways for teachers to integrate technology into activities and lessons for students but the following one is a great website for both students and their teachers about video production. As a teacher, I think allowing students to create a video would be a great and fun way for students to be creative and learn. Students could make an informative video about something we are learning or they could create a video which shows me what they have learned. The truth is film allows for students to do many things and the following website gives helpful and informative tips about using video cameras in the classroom.
