Tech and Education in Savannah
This is a cool video of a teacher from Savannah, Georgia talking about how her school uses technology to enhance their students educational experience on a local news channel. I love what she has to say at the beginning of the video about curriculum and technology.
Interactive Website – Scholastic
I was looking up reviews of some books I was interested in learning more about and found a great website that reviews different books. I began to wonder if there is a website out there that children can look at that reviews and recommends good books. I found one!

The Scholastic website is a great tool for students. The site includes many reviews of different types of books. A student can search by type of book to find books that they would be the most interested in. Not only does the site include reviews and summaries of the book, but the site also includes excerpts from the book so that students can read a portion and decide if they would really be interested in reading more of the book! I think any site that encourages reading our students should know about!
Blog Progression
While updating myself on new blog posts from blogs located in my blogroll I found myself really interested in the following blog post located on “Dereks Blog“: here!
Learning about how technology is evolving and affecting educators and students is so important. In the highlighted blog entry the writer discusses the evolution of blogs and there progression since their beginning. I thought the most interesting point was the fact that blogs are no longer a technology just for young people. More and more people who are at different life stages are gravitating towards blogs and I think that is wonderful! What do you think…can literally anyone find purposeful use in a blog? I think so.
LeapFrog
I decided to do some research on toys that could actually be used as teaching tools. I found so many great lines of products, but the line I was most impressed with was the many products that Leap Frog has to offer. In my Integrating Technology course we talked about the LeapPad system which helps kids further their reading skills. I found a website managed by a woman who is both a mom and a teacher and I thought her idea of using the LeapPad system for a center idea was great!
Here is her site…other products are also discussed as well!
Nice To Hear
I was reading all of the blogs on my blog roll and read a post that really made me start to think about education. On Beth’s Thoughts on Technology in the Classroom, the author discuss the struggles she remembers having as a first year teacher, but also discusses that she still loves and feels that teaching is what she is supposed to do!
I have thought a lot about education and how it is changing. I think everyone that goes into the field at one point or another has doubts about certain aspects of education, but the one aspect of education that people never doubt is the fact that working with children is the best job to have.
